Privacy Policy

This policy covers two separate things: the website at x-simlab.app and the X Sim Lab iPad app. They are very different in what they collect, so they are described separately below.

Website

The website is operated by Daniel Pangerl. It exists to describe the app, run the field test program, and let you sign up for the newsletter.

Analytics

We use a self-hosted instance of Umami running on our own server at umami.dpangerl.de to measure basic site usage (page views, referrer, browser, country). Umami does not use cookies, does not track you across sites, and does not collect personal data. IP addresses are processed only to derive a country code and are not stored.

Because the data stays on infrastructure controlled by us and is not shared with any third-party analytics provider, no consent banner is required.

Field test program

If you sign up for the field test via the form on /field-test, we collect:

• Your name
• Your Apple ID email address

We use this information to (a) send you a TestFlight invite, (b) coordinate with you about which camera bodies need verification, and (c) contact you with field test updates. The lawful basis under the GDPR is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) when submitting the form, and our legitimate interest in verifying camera compatibility (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Your contact details are stored in Resend (Resend, Inc., 2261 Market Street #5039, San Francisco, CA 94114, USA), which we use as our email service provider. Resend is a US-based processor; data transfers are covered by the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses. A copy of the application is also sent by email to the project owner. We do not share your data with anyone else.

You can ask us to delete your field test record at any time by emailing hello@x-simlab.app.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to the newsletter, we collect your email address only. We use it to send occasional updates. The lawful basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email or by emailing us.

Newsletter delivery and the subscriber list are handled by Resend (see the field test section above for processor details).

Hosting and server logs

The website is hosted on infrastructure that automatically generates short-lived technical logs (timestamp, IP address, requested URL, user agent) for the purpose of operating the service and defending against abuse. These logs are not used for analytics and are rotated automatically.

iPad app

X Sim Lab runs entirely on your iPad. It does not send or receive any personal data, and your files and recipes stay on your device.

The app is distributed via the Apple App Store (and via TestFlight during the field test). Apple processes purchase, install, and crash information independently under Apple's privacy policy.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and applicable data protection laws, you have the right to:

• Request access to any personal data we hold about you
• Request correction or deletion of that data
• Object to or restrict processing
• Withdraw any consent you have given
• Receive your data in a portable format
• Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
